April 2, 2007 (WARWICK, RI) The Warwick Museum of Art invites you to join us Friday, April 13 from 7-9 pm for the opening of "MOTIVATED! A Multi-Media Extravaganza by Providence Area Artists." This eclectic and moving exhibition consists of fifteen professional and emerging artists, photographers and sculptors from the Providence area. There is no admission to the gallery, but a small donation to support the Museum is appreciated. MOTIVATED! will run through Saturday, April 28, 2007. Please check the website http://warwickmuseum.org/ for gallery hours.
Laura Atkinson and Patty Martucci are both curators and contributing artists for MOTIVATED! Our featured artists include Julie Beck, Celeste MacPhee, Kathleen Murtagh, Bill Muzzy, Barre Pinske, Stephanie Schechter, Gail Schilke, Pat Schreiber, Gorette Sousa, Harmony Tanguay, Amy Tarulli, Sarah Watts, and Caitlin Wood.
When Stephanie Schechter first thought of organizing the Providence Art Motivation group through Meetup.com she started with a mission statement: "To provide support, direction and deadlines for visual artists in all mediums who need structure to be productive." The result was a conglomeration of artists providing motivation, encouragement and support to one another. At the end of each meeting a new "theme" is pulled from a hat. The artists then have two weeks to complete their "assignment" in the medium of their choice to be shown at the next meeting. The results have been nothing short of astonishing.
WMOA Board Members Patty Martucci and Laura Atkinson joined the group with the intention of being motivated within their own personal realm of art and creativity. The level of talent and range of technical expertise that this small group has produced has been so impressive that Patty and Laura offered to curate a show at the Warwick Museum of Art stating emphatically: "This artwork should not be kept hidden away in a studio! Your talent must be publicly showcased!"
There is something for everyone in this multi-media exhibit. It is comprised of traditional (and non-traditional) paintings, photography, assemblage, sculpture, and more. The artists have chosen and have prominently displayed their best emotional, technically sound and expressive pieces from their collections. This marvelous show bridges together talented professional artists and gifted emerging artists, collaborating in a stunning, high-energy exhibition of artwork.
Please join us in celebrating the amazing visions that these "MOTIVATED" artists have created.
